Breeding Program

Exceptional Miniature Donkeys

Preserving the integrity of the Miniature Donkey is the top priority of our breeding program. Over the past twenty years we have selected top quality jennets and have bred them to outstanding jacks.

Our goal is to produce compact, well-balanced examples of the classic Mediterranean Miniature Donkey.

Jane Savage is a founding member of the National Miniature Donkey Association and served on the Breed Standard Committee which developed the NMDA official breed standard.

Our new herd sire, Badlands Marauder, is a combination of the best qualities of all my favorite jacks in one perfect package. He is stocky, compact, and black with a great pedigree. In addition, he is as sweet as they come. He will be an ideal out cross for my Beamer daughters which I just love. As chance would have it Marauder  happens to be the name of a B-26 WWII Bomber plane. It looks like he was meant to be a herd sire here at Flight of Fancy. A huge thank you to my dear friend, Dayle Haworth, for selling him to me in a weak moment!

31½" Light Red Jack
DOB: May 25th, 1996

Sire: My World Vincent, 32½" Light Red
Dam: My World Myra, 30½" Dark Brown

We are pleased to have Winston as a herd sire. This exceptional 31½" light red jack is drafty and correct with a sweet personality. Winston is the product of My World Farm's intensive sorrel breeding program. He has both Buster and Red Baron in his pedigree. He has produced sorrel, black, masked spot, grey and brown for us! He has also produced frosted white with pink undertones. Winston stamps his foals with his exceptional chest, round rear and heavy bone.

A word about Winston: Why is Winston a great stud? After years of breeding, I consider Winston great not only because he is beautifully conformed and sweet to be around, but because his foals are so special. They are stamped with many of the qualities I love in their sire. They are stocky, square and correct. You can easily pick out all the Winston foals in the pasture. They are wonderful examples of the Breed Standard. Winston has not been shown and has no show record, but for me his progeny is what I value the most. They are what make Winston great!

We have retained so many of Beamer's daughters for our breeding program that it was time to change jacks for another bloodline. Beamer was promised back to his breeders at Itsy Bitsy Burro Company, Jerry & Tonnie Willrich in La Grange, Texas.

A tribute to a special jack

6/13/94 ~ 12/07/07

I was very sad to hear about the recent untimely death of LN Red Sonfire. Sonfire was the sire of many, many exceptional offspring and has made a very positive contribution to the donkey world. He was a very sweet and loving donkey and passed that trait on to his many foals. Sonfire was a show champion and had a significant number of his progeny that were show winners. This was a very special donkey that will be missed.

HHAA Ch Ching
HHAA Ch ChingHHAA Ch Ching

Immature Dark Brown-Roan & White Spotted Jennet
DOB: September 20th, 2006

Height June '09: 32¾"

Sire: Pine Grove Farm's Peppercorn Jack, 29½" Brown
Dam: Windcrest Little Sierra, 33" Black & White Spotted

I was so pleased to purchase this beautiful spot jenny from Joe & Dayle at Half Ass Acres in Tennessee. Ch Ching is stunning and so colorful with white hairs throughout her dark spots. She looks like she may continue to darken to black as her dam did. She is a full sister to Ponderosa's herdsire, HHAA Mojave, who appeared on the cover of  The Asset magazine. I just love both her dam and sire so she has great genetics as well as the color. Ch Ching has been bred to Badlands for an August 2011 foal.

Flight of Fancy Mystic

Immature Very Dark Brown Jennet
DOB: October 13th, 2007
Birth Height: 22¼"

Height June '09: 31½"

Sire: My World Winston, 31½" Light Red
Dam: Brasstown Brayer's Black Beauty, 31" Black w/Cross

We were so glad to have a healthy beautiful foal since she took some time to come into the world. The vet assisted in this birth and after a few good tugs she arrived as feisty as could be. Mystic is a very similar color to her dam. She is a real stocky girl at 30 pounds at birth. We have been looking for a nice dark jenny and we sure found her right here. We plan to add her to our breeding program when she matures.

Flight of Fancy Raven BeautyFlight of Fancy Raven Beauty

Black Jennet w/Small Star & Blue/Gray Eyes
DOB 11/16/08 ~ 21¾" tall & 30 lbs. at birth

Sire: Itsy Bitsy Front & Center "Beamer", 31¼" Black w/Star
Dam: Dewey Meadows Donatella, 31½" Black w/Cross, NLP

Yes, Raven is an aircraft, but it also means glossy black hair and this girl sure has that. She is as black as coal with no cross. Rave also has a small star and beautiful head like her sire, Front and Center. I couldn't have asked for a nicer foal. Beamer has done a super job to produce two such stunning girls for us.

Raven has the most beautiful unusual eyes that seem to be staying deep blue. Her grand dam, Tequila, also has blue eyes I just discovered. She is the only dark donkey I have seen with blue eyes.

Raven is as nice as I had hoped she would be at nearly two years old. We expected something special out of Donatella by “Beamer” and she didn’t disappoint us. She is stocky, correct, and very black. Her muzzle is now white she has lost the intermediate coloring. She has a beautiful and very unusual “blue” eye. (although, as ADMS explains, it is technically a “grey” eye unlike the blue pinto eye) We think she will be an excellent cross with our new jack, Badlands, when she turns three.

Kiowa's Blue Gray Eye!
Kiowa's Gray-Blue Eye!

Red/Brown Jennet w/Blue/Gray Eyes!
DOB 7/15/09 ~ 20¼" tall & 19 lbs. at birth

Sire: Itsy Bitsy Front and Center, 31" Black w/Star
Dam: My World Dory, 32¼"Dark Red

This was Dory's first foal but, we weren't expecting her until August. It was a real shock when Terry saw Dory walking in the pasture with the foal half presented. We quickly got her back to the foaling stall. She had no intention of lying down so we gently assisted with the birth while she was standing thus the name Kiowa's Standing Ovation. (Kiowa is a name of an Army helicopter to fit the plane theme) Luckily Dory, after a little confusion, decided motherhood wasn't that bad. Kiowa was alert and energetic from the moment she stood and knew right where to get her milk.

Kiwi is as cute as she can be and isn’t quite 29” tall at a year old. She is well built and straight with a sweet little dished head. She also has a “grey” eye which actually looks blue visually. This little girl is special and we are not able to part with her at this time.

Flight of Fancy Cat's CheetahFlight of Fancy Cat's Cheetah

Black & White Spotted Jennet w/Blue/Gray Eyes
DOB 9/04/09 ~ 21" tall & 22 lbs. at birth

Sire: Itsy Bitsy Front and Center, 31" Black w/Star
Dam: Flight of Fancy Catalina, 32½" Brown *MSF

We were surprised this spot jenny has so much white on her. Another beautiful blue eyed jenny (like Raven, Liberty, and Kiwi... all Beamer foals) with nice dark eyeliner. Her spot pattern is really interesting with very dark coloring on her ears, eye rings, along her back and part of her tail. We couldn't have had a better foal for the last one of the year. Of course, we think she is cute as can be, as well as straight and wide. Front and Center continues to do a great job!

For anyone who is keeping up with the aircraft theme . The Cheetah was a fighter aircraft operated by the South African Air Force. Cheetah means "spots" in the Indian language.

Now that Cheetah is a yearling we can say for sure she is a black and white spot. This little jenny is stunning and is staying small. We are very pleased with her. She also has an unusual and beautiful “grey” eye that her sire “Beamer” has produced in so many of his offspring.

Click here to see Cheetah's complete pedigree. (coming soon)
